Overview

ShiftClarity (ie.shiftclarity.app) is published on Google Play by Mikeyyyy33. The data controller is Michael Maguire. ShiftClarity helps adults record work, estimate gross and take-home pay, compare predictions with payslips, track mileage and leave, and optionally create calendar events and invoices.

The short version

Your ordinary ShiftClarity workspace is stored in the app’s private storage on your device. There is no ShiftClarity account, advertising, developer-operated cloud sync, remote payslip processor or payroll server.

Estimates are informational tools, not financial, tax, legal or employment advice. They do not make decisions about you and should be checked against your employer’s payroll records and official Revenue information where needed.

02

Information the app handles

You choose what to enter. Depending on the features you use, this may include:

Employment and work

Name, job or employer name, employment dates, rates, shifts, breaks, locations, notes, rotations and premium rules.

Pay and tax

Earnings, reimbursements, PAYE, USC, PRSI, pension, LPT, tax credits, rate bands, tax basis and year-to-date totals.

Payslip verification

Figures you confirm, verification status, and privacy-minimised label or layout anchors used to assist later reviews.

Leave

Annual or sick-leave type, dates, paid status and entitlement settings. The app does not require a diagnosis or medical document.

Mileage and invoices

Journey details, kilometres, reimbursement, customer or supplier details, tax references, VAT numbers and payment instructions you enter.

Preferences and diagnostics

Feature choices, notice versions, calculation route, record counts and app/device version. A diagnostic is shared only when you deliberately export it.

The app uses this information to provide the features you request. The ordinary legal basis is performance of the requested app service under GDPR Article 6(1)(b). Optional sick-leave information that could reveal health information is processed locally at your explicit direction. You can withdraw that choice by deleting the entry or all local app data.

Earlier app versions could retain an attachment display name, MIME type and file size with a saved verification. Those legacy fields are preserved so an upgrade does not silently delete data. New verifications do not retain them.

03

Payslips, documents and OCR

  • Attaching a payslip is optional; supported figures can be entered manually.
  • Selected PDFs or images are copied temporarily into the app cache and processed on the device.
  • Digital PDF text is attempted first. Android uses Google’s bundled ML Kit text recognition as an on-device fallback; iOS uses Apple Vision and PDFKit.
  • The source document, full recognised text, preview images and PDF password are not sent to ShiftClarity and are not saved in workspace backups.
  • Only figures you confirm and privacy-minimised layout anchors are retained. Unconfirmed OCR suggestions never become confirmed information.
  • Temporary app-owned files are removed after the review flow on a best-effort basis and remain subject to operating-system cache management.
Android ML Kit metrics

Google states that the bundled OCR SDK keeps image/text inputs and recognised output on-device. When that OCR path is used, it may send Google limited encrypted operational metrics such as device/app details, a per-installation identifier, feature configuration, event and error information, input/output size and performance or latency. These are used for diagnostics, analytics, maintenance and misuse prevention—not to send the payslip image or its recognised text.

04

When information can leave your device

ShiftClarity does not sell personal data or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking. Information can leave the device only when:

  1. Android ML Kit sends the limited operational metrics described above.
  2. You purchase or restore Work Pro through Google Play.
  3. You enable calendar integration and your chosen calendar provider syncs an event.
  4. You deliberately export or share a backup, invoice or diagnostic.
  5. You contact support and choose what to include in your message.

Calendar integration is off until you enable it and grant permission. The app lists writable calendars and creates, updates or removes ShiftClarity-managed events; it does not read your general calendar history. Calendar IDs are removed from workspace backups.

Workspace backups are user-initiated, unencrypted JSON files containing sensitive workspace and financial information. Generated invoices may contain identity, address, tax and payment details. You select the destination through the operating system; that recipient or storage provider then applies its own terms. Store exports securely and delete copies you no longer need.

05

Google Play Billing

Google Play handles Work Pro checkout, payment methods, authentication, currency, tax and transaction processing. ShiftClarity does not receive your complete card or bank details. The billing integration checks product details, purchases and active subscription status.

During purchase or restore, Google’s billing library temporarily handles a purchase token and transaction status. ShiftClarity does not deliberately log, back up or persist the token, order ID, Google account identifier or payment details. It retains only minimal local entitlement status and the time it was last checked. The publisher may access Google Play order and financial reports when required for subscription support, refunds, fraud prevention, accounting or legal compliance.

Retention, deletion and security

  • Local workspace data remains until you delete the related job, use Settings → Delete local app data, clear app storage or uninstall.
  • Previous/recovery snapshots are retained locally to protect against failed writes or migrations. The explicit local-data deletion action removes them.
  • Source documents, recognised text, previews and passwords are not retained after review, subject to best-effort cache cleanup.
  • Calendar events may remain with an external calendar provider if the app is removed before it can delete them.
  • Exports remain wherever you sent them until you or that provider deletes them.
  • ShiftClarity does not routinely export a separate copy of Play order records. Any records required for accounting or law are retained only for the applicable statutory period.
  • Support correspondence is normally deleted within 24 months after the matter closes unless it is needed longer for an active dispute or legal obligation.

Workspace data is stored in private app storage and Android system cloud backup is disabled. Temporary documents use app cache, passwords are not persisted and exported diagnostics are minimised. User-created JSON backups are not separately encrypted by ShiftClarity, so protect them with secure device and storage controls. No security measure eliminates every risk.

07

Your rights and choices

Subject to applicable law, you may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, and the right to withdraw consent where consent applies. Because the ordinary workspace stays on your device and is not available to the publisher, you can review or correct it in the app, export a portable backup, and delete local data in Settings. ShiftClarity has no user accounts and cannot remotely retrieve a local-only workspace.

ShiftClarity is intended only for adults aged 18 and over and is not configured for children. If you believe a minor has provided information directly to the publisher, contact us so it can be investigated and removed where applicable.

You may complain to the Irish Data Protection Commissionor another competent supervisory authority.
